Àustria es una federacion devesida en nòu estats federats (en alemand: Bundesländer), cadun d'els tenent son govèrn pròpri. La capitala, Viena, constituís un estat que compren unicament una municipalitat.
L'organizacion politico-administrativa del país subiguèt de grandas modificacions durant lo sègle XX. D'en primièr per encausa de la desintegracion de l'Empèri Austroongrés, pus tard a causa de l'Anschluss, e fin finala après los eveniments que seguiguèron la fin de la Segonda Guèrra Mondiala.
