Foguèt en 1980, gràcias a l'album This Time que se faguèt conéisser mondialament. Long de sa rica carrièra es estat guerdonat amb 7 Prèmis Grammy e es lo sol cantaire qu'aja recebut de recompensas dins tres categorias diferentas, en jazz, pop e R&B.
