Pretenders, o The Pretenders, es un grop de ròck anglés format a Londres (Reialme Unit) en 1978 per la cantaira americana Chrissie Hynde (nascuda lo 7 de setembre de 1951 a Akron, dins Ohio), ambe lo bassista Pete Farndon (defuntat en 1983), lo guitarrista James Honeyman-Scott (defuntat en 1982) e lo bateire Martin Chambers. Los musicians del grop an sovent cambiat, en particular a partir dels decèsses de James Honeyman-Scott e de Pete Farndon.

Entremièi las cançons emblematicas dels Pretenders en Occitània, se pòt citar Brass in pocket en 1980 (enregistrat en 1979), que foguèt d'alhors lor primièr succès internacional, I go to sleep, represa dels Kinks e succès a la tota fin de 1981, Don’t get me wrong a la fin de l'annada de 1986, o encara la balada I'll stand by you, tube en 1994. Se pòt tanben evocar a la fin de l'annada de 1985 la represa de I Got You Babe de Sony & Cher que faguèt Chrissie Hynde la cantaira dels Pretenders ambe lo grop reggae UB 40.
