Istòria
This article needs translation. After translating, please remove this tag
The first inhabitants of Zimbabwe were the Khoisan people (hunters and collectors). They were replaced by Bantu people during a series of migrations.
In 1888 Cecil Rhodes obtained mining rights from the king Lobengula, of the Ndebele people. A few years after the British started colonization, and the region received the name Rhodesia (in honour to Cecil Rhodes).
In 1965 Ian Smith proclaimed the independence of Rodhesia, but it was not recognized either by Reialme Unit or by the United Nations. Smith established a racist regime, similar to the "apartheid" of Africa del Sud. A civil war against the racist regime started, and it only ended when Rhodesia's government agreed with free elections, in which Joshua Nkomo, leader of the guerrilas, agreed to participate.
After the election of Robert Mugabe in 1980, Rhodesia's independence was recognized, and the country took the present name of Zimbabwe.
